“The Circus is Coming to Town”

Paintings by Venezuelan Artist Juan Urbina

Who doesn’t have a few wonderful childhood memories of a marvelous afternoon at the circus? An afternoon filled with excitement, foreign odors, fantastic clowns, acrobats and animals from far away lands?

Juan Urbina revives these memories with his brilliantly colorful paintings and brings the circus to life at Elena Zass Gallery in Laguna Beach.. From August 2 to September 4, the Venezuelan painter, shows several pieces in his series called  Fantasia en el circo’ (“Fantasy in the circus”).

Urbina’s  work immediately surrounds and embraces the viewer with its liveliness.  Vivid colors and stunning scenes glue the viewer to the various, often-surrealistic scenes on his canvases.    Elephants and harlequins dance in front of the viewers’ eyes creating a dreamlike landscape with an open invitation to join in the fun.

Urbina, a renown artist in his native Venezuela, has already shown his work in such contrasting places as Germany and Cuba.  He has also had exhibits in the East Coast of the United States.    Urbina is showing his work here in the West Coast for the first time.

Fantasia en el Circo’ introduces a group of exalted, yet mature pieces of work produced in an elaborated mixed media technique of oil, acrylic and gold powder.  The result: inspiring and motivating oeuvres.

Enjoy the magic of the circus!  Juan Urbina’s work can be seen from August 2 – September 4, (show opening on August 2, 6pm-9pm ) at Elena Zass Gallery, 330 North Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, CA 92651; (949) 494 1969
